Hotel Kong Frederik
Welcome to Hotel Kong Frederik
Hotel Kong Frederik stands as a charming and centrally located option in the heart of Copenhagen, offering guests a blend of historic ambiance and practical convenience. Situated at Vester Voldgade 25, this 3.5-star hotel places visitors mere steps away from iconic attractions such as Tivoli Gardens, the Little Mermaid statue, and the bustling shopping street Strøget, making it an ideal base for exploring the city.
The hotel’s strengths lie in its welcoming and attentive staff, who consistently earn praise for their friendly service and 24/7 availability. Guests often highlight the comfortable and clean rooms, which are adorned with tasteful furnishings that echo the hotel's traditional character. The spacious layout of the rooms and bathrooms enhances the overall comfort, an aspect appreciated by many, although the décor shows signs of age and could benefit from an update to meet modern expectations.
Breakfast at Hotel Kong Frederik emerges as a standout feature, repeatedly described as excellent and offering a rich variety that satisfies a range of preferences. This makes mornings a pleasant start to the day for both leisure and business travelers. Practical touches—like luggage storage prior to check-in—add to the convenience and thoughtful guest experience.
However, the hotel’s historic charm also brings certain challenges. The lack of air conditioning in many rooms can be uncomfortable during warmer months, and some guests noted issues with heating and airflow, impacting those sensitive to such conditions. Noise is another factor that potential guests should consider; the hotel's location amidst vibrant nightlife venues—including a nearby gay disco—can sometimes disrupt sleep, impacting the restful quality expected from a central city hotel.
Despite these imperfections, Hotel Kong Frederik radiates a warm, inviting atmosphere that feels genuine and heartfelt. Its combination of location, hospitality, and character creates a unique Copenhagen experience. Visitors inclined toward a boutique setting with easy access to the city's cultural and entertainment hubs will find this hotel a worthy choice, particularly if they value personable service and lively surroundings over sterile modernity.
In essence, Hotel Kong Frederik reflects the soul of Copenhagen’s city center—historic, hospitable, sometimes imperfect, yet undeniably memorable.

Nice beds, good service, very nice breakfast. Horrible bars and sound around witch dosent give good sleep. Not soundproof because gay disco in front of hotel keep us up all night until change room Nice beds anyway Terrific location in centre except the gay club in front. Nice service Very nice feeling of hotel, furniture and rooms. Very good breakfast that actually is one of the few hotel that can make real scrambled eggs and bacon.
Location, location. Everything is within walking distance. We loved the separate room for the third person. Breakfast was excellent. Staff super friendly. And reasonable priced for 3 people. Comfortable clean beds. Shower over bath not great for elderly people, no hand grips or anti slip mats. The room (including bathroom) feels a bit tired, not super clean. And coffee/tea facilities would have been nice.
I stayed for three days in the hotel. Overall, it is an excellent place to stay in. However, it was cold, and the AC didn't work; I went to the reception and requested to warm up the room. The receptionist said sorry, we could not open the heater; okay, give me a spare blanket? And she said sorry, we haven't got any. I was furious, and I insisted. After 1 hour, she brought me the blanket. The hotel is clean; breakfast was satisfying. The most I love most is it is in the middle of the centre of Copenhagen.
Trendy hotel in the center for a reasonable price. We were treated very warmly. If we come back, we will definitely stay here again. We especially liked that we could have our luggage stored while we explored. The central lounge is very unique.
Beautiful building. Very festive at Christmas. The staff were absolutely lovely couldn't help enough. The rooms are clean comfortable and warm had irons tea/coffee facilities and toiletries. Breakfast was good ... overall a wonderful stay highly recommended
I actually quite enjoyed Hotel Kong Frederik, where I stayed for 1 night only. The room was very spacious and clean, and even the bathroom was really big. I agree that the hotel would benefit from having air-conditioning, but luckily it was not very warm when I visited Copenhagen. The breakfast was decent and offered sufficient choice. Despite it's flaws - it's true that the hotel has not been maintained well - the old decoration and design offered an interesting hotel experience.
For context, I traveled with my partner from the United States for vacation and stayed for 6 nights. Sorry for the long review, but I hope it's helpful! We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Kong Frederik, which is mostly attributed to the friendly and helpful staff and their 24/7 service. Everyone we met was kind and extremely helpful. The hotel offers luggage storage before check in and if you need anything printed (boarding pass, covid test results, etc) the front desk is able to do it for you easily. I really must commend the service and can't stress how great it was enough! Both the front desk staff and the kitchen staff during breakfast were amazing. We did not experience any issues during our stay, only that we had to change rooms on the first day due to an odd smell in the bathroom. The staff was very accommodating and prompt in getting us to a new room. The hotel in general is noticeably older and could use some renovation, though this does give it a certain kind of charm. There is no ventilation in the rooms, but the windows are able to be opened for fresh air - Copenhagen had great weather during our stay, so this was no issue. In our room in particular, our shower head fluctuated in water temperature while using it and it was hard to keep water off the floor, which was a little bit annoying, but not the end of the world. Other key aspects of this hotel as tourists: -The location is amazing - right by the city center plaza and only a two minute walk from the train. We booked a walking tour that met in the plaza, which was super convenient. It's very easy to get to/from the airport. There are plenty of food/shopping options in the vicinity. Tivoli Gardens is a five minute walk away and Copenhagen Central Station is an 11 minute walk if you plan to take any day trips by train. -Due to the location, it's very easy to stop by the hotel during the day to drop stuff off, refresh, etc. and go back out quickly. -We loved breakfast and they offered a number of vegetarian options. At the time of our stay, breakfast was served between 7:30-10:30 AM each day. The dining area is cute and peaceful, though you can also bring food up to your room if you prefer. -Hotel offers bike rental for 4, 8, or 24 hours at a time for an additional cost. (Though we chose to use Donkey Republic, which is an app-based rental system.) -The bed is super comfy! Overall, our stay was great and we would stay there again. I gave 4 instead of 5 stars just because of how old the hotel is, but everything else about it definitely makes up for it. If you are looking for the amenities and newness of a major chain hotel, you won't find them here, but you will enjoy a lovely stay. As we were out exploring and having fun most of the time, amenities weren't so important to us - the service was so much more impactful. Nonetheless, we still had a relaxing time whenever we were in our room and enjoyed the space we had.
Really enjoyed this hotel and would love to stay again. However, it is an old building that does not have air conditioning (as is the case with a great many buildings). This wouldn't be an issue if I didn't have a sensitivity to mold which affected my breathing. It's not that there is mold visible anywhere and the hotel is very clean, it just has built up over the years without enough air movement in the hallways. If you don't have allergies, definitely stay here. Great location and restaurant on the main floor. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
